See the destination-and-purpose planning matrix below.
Plan by destination and purpose
| Intended use | Check before relying on a passport |
|---|---|
| Short visit | Current visa, authorization and admission rules |
| Employment abroad | Destination's work/residence permission |
| Living in Argentina | Rights and documents following lawful nationality approval |
| Regional residence | Applicable agreement and destination implementation |
| Retaining original nationality | Home-country citizenship law |
Example: a family planning Brazil next year
Hypothetical scenario: a family assumes new Argentine citizenship will immediately provide a MERCOSUR residence route in Brazil. The residence agreement's definition includes naturalized nationality held for five years. The family should not infer immediate treaty eligibility from the passport alone.
Other destination rules or bilateral arrangements may require a different assessment. Confirm the specific route with the destination authority; neither a general map nor a private marketing claim settles it.
This qualification matters for families evaluating nationality primarily as a regional relocation strategy.
A different passport does not create U.S. or EU status
Argentine nationality is not EU nationality. Tourist mobility is different from permission to live and work across the EU. It also does not grant a U.S. Green Card or employment authorization.
For an H-1B holder, changing nationality does not ordinarily change birthplace-based immigrant visa chargeability. For someone whose home country restricts dual nationality, naturalization may involve a substantial tradeoff.
Measure utility against your own plans
List the destinations that matter, the intended activity and the required duration. Verify each with the destination's government rather than promising visa-free access from a ranking. Access can change and admission remains a separate decision.
Compare residence and citizenship and read the H-1B-specific implications if applicable.
